I know I'm not Ken, but it's not surprising to me that a large number of luthiers still cut fret slots by hand. The use of machinery is more a function of speeding up the process, and hand cutting is perfectly acceptable for fret slot position accuracy, and has been for a very long time.

the Dremel wood cutting head zips through ply quite easily..Same thing applies to rectangular cut outs in formers, I try to use a small radius sanding drum on a dremel, as I prefer to avoid right angle cut-outs, a radiused...

Need to replace a bar fret fingerboard on a 1927 00-21. Plan is to purchase a preslotted, 24.9, ebony board, which would be cut for tang frets, then enlarge the slots to accept .050" bar fret stock, which is what the original board has. How can I cut/route a small, straight slot through a piece ... How can I cut/route a small, straight slot through a piece of wood? ...
